Let those Ink cartridges last longer!
We spend a lot of money on the office stationary every year. All our efforts to create paperless offices are still a long way to go. We are still using our printers a great deal. We spend an enormous amount of money on printer ink cartridges both for official and personal use. At least some of us have learnt how to make the ink cartridges last for longer. All of us need to learn these tricks so that we can save a great deal on the ink cartridges that cost almost the price of a new printer.
Many printer companies price their printers very low because printers last longer than the ink. Sometimes ink cartridges can cost us as much as 80% of the printer cost. By taking little extra care we will be able to save at least a few dollars on each cartridge.
The first step towards making your ink cartridges last longer is to avoid printing unnecessary material. Take a closer look at the material that you would like to be printed, we often print many unnecessary things such as images and graphics that are part of the document. Most often we would only need the text that is in the document. So avoid printing unnecessarily images and graphics. If required reformat the document to remove these images and graphics. If you would like to retain the integrity of the original document you can always create a new document with only the information that you would like to be printed.
Use grey scale printing when color printouts are not an absolute necessity. Also if you are not required to submit the document for any formal use, you can print your document in draft mode. You can save almost 50% of the ink when you print in draft mode. Many of us have the habit of taking a rough copy of important documents to check for formatting and proof reading. For such reasons you can print the document in draft mode. What would be even better is to use the print preview option as much as possible so that you don’t have to print your documents even in draft mode unnecessarily. You can correct all formatting errors using print preview and you can also proof read the document without having them necessarily printed for the sake of proof reading.
Plan all your printing jobs for the day in advance so that you do not have to switch on and switch off your printer often. Whenever the printer is switched on the printer head uses a small portion of the ink. You can either choose to leave the printer on or can have all the print jobs done together.
Make sure that you use your printer regularly. If it is not used for a long time then the printer ink may get dried up. This will also spoil the printer head.
These are some of the basic things which can be followed by all of us. If we are really keen in reducing the frequency of buying the ink cartridges then these little extra efforts are worth the pain.
